About Fair Harbor

Fair Harbor is a quiet, beautiful, family-oriented beach community made up of bungalows and beach houses.  There is a mix of families and singles, mostly in the 30s to 50s age range.

Getting There

Take the Ferry from Bayshore

The Long Island Rail Road goes to Bayshore, and there is a van service to the ferry dock.

There is  a private van service available from Manhattan directly to the ferry dock.

The trip from NYC to the ferry dock takes about an hour (with no traffic), and the ferry ride takes about 25 minutes.

There is a parking lot at the ferry dock if you want to drive (about $30 per car per weekend). You can park for free at the railroad station and take the van service (about $3 per person).

The community

Fair Harbor is very narrow, only 2 blocks wide, referred to as the "Beach" block, and the "Bay" block. It is about 15 blocks in length, so you’re never very far from anyone you meet.   Click here to see a street map of Fair Harbor

In addition to a magnificent ocean beach, we have a small bay beach that the children love (no waves). Fair Harbor has an active community association that raised funds and built a new playground several years ago.

On Wednesdays there is a movie at the Firehouse for the kids.

Fair Harbor has a grocery store (Pioneer), a hardware/general store (Corliss-on-the-Bay), a great restaurant serving continental cuisine (le Dock),  a liquor store (the Loading Dock), and an ice cream stand (Unfriendly's). The restaurant also has a pizza counter (Surf Dog Pizza) for take-out, and a bar in the back.. The grocery and hardware stores will allow you to run an account that you can settle up each week, so you don’t have to carry a lot of cash.

The town also pays for a doctor to be resident during the season and on-call 24 hours a day for minor emergencies.  The Suffolk County Police have emergency 4-wheel drive vehicles equipped as ambulances, and the life guards also have proper equipment and training.
